The terms office ergonomics and computer ergonomics are generally synonymous and are used to mean the same thing. They normally pertain to ergonomic chairs, stools, office chairs, keyboards, desks, or mice that can easily adapt to any human form.
If you or your employees sit at workstations, chairs, or use computers that are not designed and built with ergonomics in mind it can lead to some chronic health issues such as repetitive stress injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome. Improper ergonomics can result to neck pain, back pain, headaches, shoulder pain, and all sorts of medical issues. You can perform any office task more comfortably and experience less pain with ergonomic desk chairs.
You are probably looking into purchasing a brand new office chair but if you would want to purchase a second-hand office chair you may be able to find an ergonomic chair, a true ergonomic chair, or a somewhat expensive chair such as the Aeron chair on the internet or on eBay. Chances are slim that you'll find a good quality ergonomic chair that is cheap.
Most ergonomic executive chairs have adjustable neck and head rest. If you work in a laboratory you may require an ergonomic lab chair or you may want a tall stool. You may choose to have a tall stool with or without arms but it's important for it to have a foot rest which will give ample foot, knee, and ankle support. This type of chair should also be adjustable in terms of height, as well as linear tracking arms and pivoting arm rests.
Some ergonomic desk chairs are designed for intensive use. Intensive chairs are built to be durable and are also known as 24/7 seating and are made for employees that sit for an extended period of time. These types of chairs are normally used for control rooms, dispatch room security monitoring rooms, as well as 911 emergency dispatch offices. Some online stores will allow you to build an ergonomic chair according to your specifications providing that you can't find one that suits your needs.
Some chairs have seat pans that are easily adjusted for a backward or forward tilt. The chair's tilt adjustment or chair recline feature allows for angle modifications. The hydraulic seat height adjustment feature allows the user to make adjustments so that the feet can easily rest on the footrest or the floor so as to properly align the body to the computer.
To relieve back pressure, there are ergonomic chairs that have armrests but this is not advisable if you have a low desk. Backrest adjustments allows for upper body weight transfer. The tilt mechanism gives adequate support if you want to recline or move. It is advisable to slightly recline your back once in a while. If you are looking into chairs with armrests, you should also look for the adjustable width and height feature. Chairs made of superior quality have spring coils or foam padding to maintain comfort and support.
If you want a cheaper ergonomic desk chair, you can search your local office furniture stores, but if you want to easily locate the more expensive Aeron chair you have a much better chance of finding one online.
